Quotes #27: Difficulties

Good evening !

How long ago have you had difficulties ? Compexities ?
When it seemed, that "I know everything. I can do!" ... or "finally, I've solved all my troubles and now I can relax", and - BOOM! - life throws you a puzzle, where you cannot  even understand what is the task, never mind solving it !

Difficulties.... You just started to feel joy from the fact, that YOU CAN, made a step further, and here they come. And they're especially hard, because in the very beginning it's totally understandable to not know anything and be unable to do anything - you're a newbie ! And here, you're not a newbie any more, but not a master too. You got the taste (of glory :) ), and suddenly it became difficult.

You lost the ardour and have this sinking feeling, that you're falling back. You could do everything yesterday, but not today. And at this moment, having taken a look at your disappointment and desperation, inhale deeply, exhale and remember, "how it was that teacher said"...

"Technique is what you fall back on when you run out of inspiration." Rudolf Nureyev

The only thing you SHOULD NOT do at this moment is give up and throw in a towel. Very often these difficulties are a sign of moving to a new level of mastery.
Complex means consisting of something more simple, elementary. We are always given complex situations, where we know the simpler parts they consist of, which means, we can handle them.
If you just live with it for a while, continuing to do, what you can and in the way you can, giving your 100%, at some moment a second wind comes, and you understand, that you made it, and you can do more now.

My yoga teacher taught us, that in every practice, every day you have to discover yourself anew, however long you exercise. Speaking scientifically, the progress is non-linear. Yesterday you could bend over, and today ? Wow, you can't ! How interesting ! You can think about it (body always reflects our inner state). Let's see what tomorrow brings.

And don't pull yourself apart, trying to do things better than yesterday. Yesterday is already gone. The only moment is the present. Listen to yourself, ask yourself - is that you 100% for today ? If your honest answer is "yes", just accept yourself today for what you are today, and wait til tomorrow to see what you will become. Probably, today you're destined to make a leap somewhere else.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Theodore Roosevelt

Complex life situations help us to find ways to solve seemingly insolvable problems. When we stumble upon something, that seems to be beyond our abilities, and we choose to pursue the goal (sometimes we say "I have no choice" - and it is also our choice), we expand our abilities, because when old ways are not enough to solve a difficulty, we find hidden reserves inside and start doing things differently. Pull out our hidden talents. And having found them, we feel joy and pride, discovering ourselves anew.

It is important not to avoid difficulties, and go through them with easiness, listening to your heart. If it says, that direction is right, then these difficulties are just masked possibilities. And if they're given to us, then we need them for some reason.

“In the heart of every difficulty there is a possibility.”  Albert Einstein

Difficulties and complexities will always exist. Life would not be as interesting without them. Osho has a great saying about this :

"There is no point fighting against the challenges of life, or trying to avoid or deny them. They are there, and if the seed is to become the flower we must go through them. Be courageous enough to grow into the flower you are meant to be."

I also like a parable of a farmer, that came to God and asked him to create ideal weather for his wheat. Regular rains, bright sun, no frost, no winds and no drought. And after a year the wheat was big, but there were no grains inside. The farmer asked God why it is so, and God answered:

"Because there was no challenge, because there was no conflict, no friction, because you avoided all that was bad, the wheat remained impotent. A little struggle is a must. Storms are needed, thunder, lightning is needed. They shake up the soul inside the wheat."

So it is in our life. Some storms, winds and rainfalls will not hurt.
And how to pass through them... Osho also writes that...

"What is easy, is right."

And this is what we can learn from wheat. Bend under the wind, but not fall. Get down, get heavy and slow down under the rain, but not break. Shake under the thunder and lighting, but not shatter, and continue to live, breath and grow. Do what you can do today, look for new ways, but not break yourself. Slowly grow from the tiny seed into the rich beautiful flower.

After the storm, when the sun comes out, flower grows quickly, stronger now, more fresh, having absorbed all the strength of the nature.

Some long long time ago I was lucky to be on Hawaii. And there I was deeply touched by the view of the single blossoming flower on the top of the volcano. Black burnt stony surface, 40C heat and no bush, no shadow, no water around. And just one flower, green and rose in color. Incredibly bright on the gray and black background. Very inspiring...

Epilogue...
This post was hard to write. :) I couldn't find what to write about. The choice of topics was wide, but nothing "sparked". Having found a topic,  I couldn't find the words. But I typed, deleted, typed again and all this time I felt I had to go on - and it will flow. And I was right ! Having changed a dozen of quotes, hundreds of words, sentences and even several styles, a second wind came, and in the end the only thought that bothered me was how to stop. :)
I am glad, I didn't give up, I am happy with the result, and moreover, I am pretty sure, that in my brain, consciousness and somewhere else between my crown and my heels there were changes. Definitely for the best.

Which I also wish to you !

Have a nice working week, and be happy about coming difficulties and complexities !
Let them bring you more interest in life and their solving - joy and pride !

Take care,
   Sveta
